Ruth Nyambura Maru

Research Assistant at JKUAT

I just finished my master’s degree and waiting for graduation on 29th November 2024 and currently working as a research assistant at Jomo Kenyata University of Agriculture and Technology. In my second year of research I participated in the long-term student exchange program from March 2023 to February 2024 at Tokyo University of Agriculture. The program helped me gain various new experiences such as communication skills where I was able to learn different languages including Japanese language that helped me communicate with people from diverse backgrounds. I also learnt about the Japanese way of living and their diverse culture. I gained problem solving skills where I was able to analyze different problems affecting food and agriculture and able to provide solution in my capacity. Through my participation in other programs in Japan such as the international students summit I was able to gain leadership skills and be able to lead in taking actions for sustainable development in Kenya. In future I would like to pursue my doctorate in Japan and continue gaining more skills both in academic and social skills.
