Joy Njeri Wachira
Project Assistant Volunteer for The Youth Café(NGO)
My name is Joy Njeri Wachira, and I am currently working as a Project Assistant Volunteer
for The Youth Café, a Non-Governmental Organisation that empowers youth in Kenya and
Africa. In 2021, I had the opportunity to participate as a presenter at the 20th International
Students Summit hosted by Tokyo University of Agriculture. The theme, “Linking Actions,
Research, and Education in Agriculture Value Chains to Achieve Environmental, Social, and Economic Sustainability,” resonated with me deeply, influencing my perspective on sustainable food systems and youth-led initiatives. This experience has greatly enriched my
understanding and inspired me to put these concepts into practice in my community. At The
Youth Café, I apply the insights I gained by assisting in the development and implementation of impactful programs, developing communication strategies, and producing educational content on topics such as governance, health, agriculture and environmental sustainability.
Our goal is to engage and empower young people with the knowledge to make informed
decisions that drive towards sustainable development. Looking forward, I plan to pursue a
Master’s degree in Food Science, with a focus on innovative food processing methods, while continuing to contribute to initiatives that advance youth involvement in agriculture and environmental health.
