John Kinyanjui Wanjira
Private Veterinary Technologist
My name is John Kinyanjui Wanjira, a recent graduate in BSc Animal Health Production and Processing. I work as a private Veterinary Technologist in my rural community, serve as Secretary for a local self-help group, and manage dairy farming on my grandparents’ farm. My aim is to enhance animal welfare and production, supporting both family business and career development.
I presented at the 23rd International Student Summit, discussing poultry as a sustainable food resource to address food shortages in Sub-Saharan Africa. Poultry farming offers high efficiency, low carbon emissions, minimal capital investment, and provides nutrient-rich products for human diets.
Participating in the CIEP program broadened my perspective on agricultural value addition and community farming. Alongside my poultry rearing, I helped establish a self-help group focused on acquiring resources like incubators and marketing strategies. Together, we aim to secure grants and support from local and national government initiatives to expand our agricultural impact.
