My name is Japhet Safiel Japhet, a Tutorial Assistant in Forest Engineering at the Department of Forest Engineering and Wood Sciences, Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA). I am also pursuing an MSc in Ecosystems Science and Management at the Department of Ecosystems and Conservation, SUA. Recently, I participated in the International Students Summit on Food, Agriculture, and Environment (ISS) held in Tokyo NODAI from August 2–8, 2023, where I presented an abstract on Indigenous knowledge, innovation, and bamboo utilization technologies. This program connected me with an international network of young leaders committed to sustainable food, agriculture, and environmental solutions. It enhanced my understanding of related global issues and strengthened my analytical skills in identifying and communicating local environmental challenges through research. Going forward, I aim to pursue further studies and initiate community projects that foster environmental conservation and climate resilience, applying the skills gained from ISS Tokyo NODAI to positively impact my community and beyond.
