Emmy Olais Wavii

I am Emmy Olais Wavii, currently working as a nutritionist at Foodex Company Limited, where I oversee nutrition and food services for patients at Lumumba Hospital in Zanzibar. From November 24, 2023, to March 4, 2024, I had the opportunity to participate in the Tenkai online course, Japan Food Systems for Food and Nutrition Improvement in Africa. This program has been transformative, broadening my understanding of sustainable food systems and their critical role in addressing malnutrition and food insecurity.

Since completing the course, I have actively applied these insights in my daily work by promoting food safety, efficiency, and quality within our food service operations, and by sharing knowledge on healthy and sustainable eating practices within the community. Additionally, I am exploring ways to advocate for and implement practices learned from Japanese food systems to improve local nutrition standards, particularly in healthcare settings.

In the future, I aim to expand my work in nutrition education and policy advocacy to promote sustainable food systems in Tanzania and beyond, supporting healthier communities and more resilient food practices.
