Catherine Layson Mwanjisi
Co-founder and Managing Director at Global Kilimo Smart
My name is Catherine Layson Mwanjisi, and I am the Co-founder and Managing Director of Global Kilimo Smart, a youth-led agricultural initiative focused on sustainable farming techniques. In January 2022, I participated in the “Overview and Organization of Japanese Agriculture” program, where I gained insights into Japan’s agriculture, shaped by environmental factors and advanced technology.
From February to August 2022, I completed the GENKI Japanese Language program, learning basic Japanese, and participated in an online exchange event with Japanese, SUA, and JKUAT students to share insights on food and culture.
These experiences have significantly impacted my career, broadening my understanding of agriculture and enhancing my cross-cultural communication skills. This knowledge has been instrumental in my work, where we implement climate-resilient farming techniques and educate local farmers on adapting to climate challenges.
Our initiative has supported over 500 farmers, helping them improve yield and sustainability. In the future, I plan to expand these programs to reach more communities, promoting resilience in agriculture through sustainable methods.
